Year 2
Welcome to the Year 2 class page. Our class teacher is Mrs Artley and Mrs Woolley who will teach the class on a Thursday. Mrs Bywater covers the class on Friday mornings. Our teaching assistant is Mrs Darnbrough.
Homework and spellings will be sent home every Friday. The spellings will be tested the following Friday and homework should be returned by Wednesday.
Reading books linked to your child’s phonetic/reading ability will be changed every week. Reading books for pleasure to share and enjoy together will be changed throughout the week. Your child will be given a set day which will be recorded in their personal organiser. Please ensure your child brings their personal organiser every day.
Make sure you read daily at home. If you read four times a week and it is written in your personal organiser, you will get a raffle ticket to join our reading raffle.
PE sessions will be on Tuesday and Thursday.
We will continue to be using Seesaw for help with phonics, reading, maths and any additional homework. If you cannot access Seesaw, please speak with Mrs Artley and she will print you a new code.
Spring Term 2024
We have been really busy during Spring Term in Year 2.
In maths we have learnt how to multiply, divide and all about shape. In literacy we have used the texts Dear Earth, The Minpins and The Bear and the Piano to help us complete some fantastic writing, we have written amazing stories! In DT we have been learning all about balanced diets and created our own healthy wrap. In art we created our own collages using a variety of different textures. In music we studied the Four Seasons and learnt all about string quartets and even learnt some Latin musical terms. In computing we have loved programming the Beebots and debugging them when something went wrong.
In history we have found out all about Florence Nightingale and in geography we have completed fieldwork studies to investigate the weather!
We were really lucky and took part in the Active Fusion PE festival where we had the chance to take part in lots of different activities, including learning a dance with the Royal Opera House. We finished the term with a fantastic liturgy of The Last Supper.
Autumn Term 2023
Year 2 have had a fantastic Autumn term and have completed a whole array of learning.
In Literacy we have enjoyed studying the texts Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jim and the Beanstalk and Wolves. More recently we have been studying grammar and we have a great understanding of sentence structure now.
In maths, we have been using concrete and pictorial representations to secure our knowledge of place value, addition and subtraction.
In History, we learnt all about Changes in Technology and we were amazed at how people used to communicate through telephone boxes and write on typewriters. In Geography, we know all about Tromso in Norway and have compared it to our local area. In Science, we have learnt about living things and their habitats. We have loved conducting experiments linked to this.
In PE we have enjoyed outdoor PE with Mr Horton looking at team games and ball skills. Inside we have developed our gymnastic skills and created dances linked to the circus.
In Art we studied drawing and created different scenes and made a zig zag book of this. In DT we created a model Ferris Wheel. This took lots of creativity and problem solving.
We can't wait for Spring Term to learn even more!
