Year 2
Welcome to the Year 2 class page. Mrs Artley is the class teacher with Miss Milburn and Miss Rowland supporting each day. Mrs Bywater covers the class on a Tuesday morning and Mrs Woolley all day on a Friday.
Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be returned by Thursday for marking. Spellings will also be given out on a Friday to practise for the following week, they will be stuck in planners but can be practised in homework books. Homework may also be set on Seesaw or Rollama.
PE days are Tuesday and Thursday and will be outdoors weather permitting so please ensure that appropriate PE kit is in school. It is suggested that it is brought on Monday and taken home on Friday to allow for any last minute changes.
If your child accesses RWI, they will bring home a book matched to the level to their ability. These will be changed every Friday permitting your child returns the one previously given to them.
If your child has completed the RWI programme, they will choose a Reading for Pleasure book from the library. This will be changed once a week.
Children will also get the chance to choose a 50 Recommended Reads for Year 2 alongside their home reading book. Please take care of these books and your child will have the opportunity to change this once a week.
Please make sure you try to read daily at home! If you read four times a week and it is written in your Personal Organiser, you will get a raffle ticket to join our reading raffle!
Our Reading Scrapbook will also be sent home each week to further share our love of reading in class.
Year 2 have had a great start to the year. We have enjoyed learning about the changes in technology over the past 60 years as well as learning about living things and their habitats. We are developing our running and jumping skills in PE, as well as improving our ball skills with Miss Guttridge.
In maths, we have looked at understanding numbers to 100 and how we can represent these use pictorial methods.
In literacy, we have been completing a unit called Place Value of Punctuation and Grammar. We can identify verbs and subjects in a sentence and where we should place capital letters and full stops.
In RE, we have been looking at the story of Noah's Ark and how we can be good stewards of creation.
