Year 1
Welcome to the Year 1 class page. Our class teachers are Mrs Artley and Mrs Woolley. Mrs Darnbrough covers the class on a Wednesday afternoon. Our Teaching Assistant's are Mrs Kay and Mrs Linford.
Homework and spellings will be sent home every Friday. The spelling test will take place on the following Friday. Homework needs to be returned the following Wednesday.
Reading books linked to your child’s phonetic ability will be changed every Monday. Reading books for pleasure to share and enjoy together will be changed every Friday.
Please make sure you read daily at home! If you read four times a week and it is written in your reading journal, you will get a raffle ticket to join our reading raffle.
PE sessions will be on Wednesday and Friday.
Summer Term 2022
This term we have been extremely busy in Year One. Our new topic is Childhood Schooldays and we have been learning all about changes over time. We have looked at what life was like in the 1950s and Queen Elizabeth's coronation. We have also been learning about school life in the Victorian era and we also went on an amazing school trip where we became Victorian Children for the day.
In science we have been learning about animals and we were lucky enough to have a travelling zoo visit us. In art we were learning about James Rizzi and creating our own art worked based on his ideas.
In Literacy we have been writing our own version of The Disgusting Sandwich and we are looking at writing descriptions and letters. We have worked really hard in phonics and completed our phonics screening check.
In maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of numbers to 100, learning about time and money.
Spring Term 2022
Spring term has been exciting for Year One. In literacy we have been writing poetry about the seasons. We have been using the story Paddington Bear to inspire us to write our own stories. We came up with some excellent ideas, including Paddington spilling marmalade all over the kitchen!
In maths we have been learning about place value within 50 and completing additions and subtractions within this.
In PE we have been working on our attacking and defending skills and began our unit on gymnastics. We also enjoyed our dance taster session with Active Fusion.
In topic we started a new topic called Bright Lights, Big City and we have been learning about the countries and capital cities in the UK. We also learned about different London Landmarks which we then drew in our art lessons.
We were very lucky to have an experience day with Hepp DT where we used saws, drills and lots of other materials to make our own London Bus.
In science we have completed many experiments to help us with our learning about everyday materials.
We have worked so hard and can't wait to continue our learning.
Autumn 2 - 2021
This half term Year 1 have been learning all about Space. We have learnt about Yuri Gagarin, the history of space travel the order of the planets and designed and made a moon buggy. In Maths we have been looking at the place value of numbers to 20 and addition and subtraction within 20. In literacy we have been looking at the stories Beegu and One Snowy Night. We have written character descriptions, information texts and retold the story of One Snowy Night. The children did a fantastic job learning the words for our songs for the nativity and performed them confidently. In RE we have enjoyed learning about hopes and wishes and lighting out advent wreath to help us prepare for the arrival of Jesus' birthday.
Autumn 1 - 2021
Year 1 have had a super start to the year and have enjoyed a variety of activities. In Literacy, we have started looking at Traditional Tales and we have been writing and sequencing the story of The Three Little Pigs. In Maths, we have enjoyed using lots of practical materials to secure our understanding of the place value of numbers to 10 and we have been finding one more and one less. In our history sessions we have started learning about the history of Dinosaurs. We are really proud with how the class have settled back into school and are trying really hard in their work. Keep it up!
