A different language is a different vision of life"

At Holy Rood we teach French to Key Stage 2 children. We believe that it is of great importance for all people to master at least one other modern foreign language (MFL). The study of MFL enables children to develop the skills and confidence to consider themselves as ‘World Citizens’ who belong in a multicultural, mutually respectful world. Our priority is that pupils are keen to participate and make progress in being able to converse using useful sentences to communicate in other languages. We aim to support pupils to understand other countries and cultures so that they can be more open and adaptable to new experiences. Ultimately, we wish for our pupils to have a love of languages and to become curious and respectful of the world around them.
Our French curriculum is guided by the Kapow scheme of work which teaching staff edit and adapt to meet the needs of their learners.
The four key language learning skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing will be taught and all necessary grammar will be covered in an age-appropriate way across Key Stage 2. This will enable our pupils to use and apply their learning in a variety of contexts, laying down solid foundations for future language learning and also helping the children improve overall attainment in other subject areas.
