FS2 Reception
Welcome to the FS2/Reception class page. Mrs Szutka is the class teacher with Miss Barnes and Mrs Gau supporting each day. Mrs Bywater covers the class on Monday or Tuesday afternoons.
In reception we continue to develop children’s learning through carefully chosen topic books, songs, rhymes, as well as through exploration which are led by the children’s interests and curiosities. We want all children to become independent learners and we encourage them to meet their own needs, having access to free flow activities indoors and outdoors.
We regularly engage with the Seesaw app to share your child’s memories and achievements and for you to see how their learning journey is progressing throughout the year. We encourage you to share your child’s home experiences and developments through photographs, as well as using the platform to share information or any concerns regarding your child to inform your class teachers. We are also available to speak to parents daily during school drop-offs and pick-ups.
Every Friday a child will be selected to take home ‘The Everywhere Bear’ so that they can take him on adventures over the weekend and during school holidays. We hope you can take photos and upload these to Seesaw, so that we can share these exciting adventures with the rest of the class.
A child will also be selected to take home the weekly F2 Reading Scrapbook challenge. We want all of our children to develop a love of reading, therefore this challenge is to record your child’s favourite book with words, drawings and give it a rating score out of 10 using shiny star stickers.
Every week your child will bring home a new reading for pleasure book, as well as a reading book linked to their phonics ability (the phonics books will be given out once your child is able to blend sounds to read words). Please share a story with your children each day, bedtime is the perfect opportunity for this. There are lots of prizes to be won for reading, the more your child reads, the more chances they have of winning. Please remember to write in your child’s reading record each time they have read at home.
PE is every Monday. Please ensure that your child has their full PE kit and uniform, labelled with your child’s name in school. Please also ensure that earrings are removed before the session.
We look forward in supporting your child as they flourish and grow whilst gaining independence during their year in reception.
World Book Day 2025
The children in EYFS came together for World Book Day, as we read ‘The Fox and the Star’.
The story is all about feelings and so we explored feelings through our provision. Each adult dressed as a different emotion, inspired by ‘The Colour Monster’ storybook. The children moved to different stations to explore a variety of experiences and emotions.
Autumn 2
Our reception children have had a super busy half term. We started off on our search for Everywhere Bear, as he had gone missing! We created posters and spread the word around school to ask for help, so that we could return him back to our class. Thankfully we found him and he is now safe and sound and back on his adventures with our children.
We learnt about the story of Stick Man who also got lost, before finally returning back to his tree house with his family. We even made stickmen treats that we tasted, they were very yummy.
It was exciting to visit our brand-new reading den with our parents, we spent time exploring new books and even had time to read some of them on the new comfy cushions.
As we prepared for the birth of Jesus Christ, we learnt about the Christmas story and worked very hard to produce our class nativity which we enjoyed very much.
We also turned our classroom into a workshop, where we wrote and posted letters to Father Christmas at the north pole, as well as wrapping up presents to put under our Christmas tree.
What an exciting half term we had!
