FS1 Nursery
Welcome to the FS1/Nursery class page. Mrs Dalton is the class teacher with Miss Haxby supporting each day.
Our nursery is morning only. We offer 15 hours per week, split over five 3-hour sessions. Our Nursery sessions run from 9.00 -12.00 Monday to Friday.
Our EYFS curriculum is play-based and is led by the interests and needs of the children. We believe strongly in promoting independence and we guide the children to express and then meet their own needs, having free access to play indoors and outdoors.
We promote communication and language through stories, songs and rhymes. We encourage a love of music, movement and rhythm and take part in daily Song and Rhyme Time sessions. Parents and family members are invited into nursery each Friday at 11.30am, to join in these sessions with their children.
We believe that parents are the child’s first educators and so we value strong home-school relationships. We are available to speak to parents daily at drop-off and pick-up times. We use the Seesaw app to share observations of learning and development in nursery. We love to see what the children have enjoyed at home and we celebrate their achievements and successes both in school and at home. The Seesaw app is a wonderful tool for regular communication and it really helps to foster a close connection between school and home.
We welcome new children into nursery during the term following their third birthday. We offer Tiny Tots Stay and Play sessions each half term for the families of children aged 0-3 years. These sessions are free and are a wonderful way to gently introduce the children to our nursery environment. Each session is themed and the families receive a free gift to support further play opportunities at home.
Our nursery children need:
- A waterproof coat
- A water bottle with their name on it
- A full change of clothing in a bag, with their name on
- A pair of wellington boots with their name inside. These will stay at school.
It has been wonderful to welcome our little ones back into nursery.
If anyone would like to view our nursery, we welcome new children and families. Please contact the school office to make an appointment.
Thank you
World Book Day 2025
The children in EYFS came together for World Book Day, as we read ‘The Fox and the Star’.
The story is all about feelings and so we explored feelings through our provision. Each adult dressed as a different emotion, inspired by ‘The Colour Monster’ storybook. The children moved to different stations to explore a variety of experiences and emotions.
Autumn 2
Autumn Term 2 began with a bang in Foundation Stage, as we explored the celebration of Bonfire Night. We had a visit from a real fire fighter, who taught us how to stop, drop and roll and how to stay safe around fire. We re-enacted a Bonfire Night celebration, building a bonfire, making firework sounds and movements using our bodies and percussion instruments. We also tasted traditional Bonfire Night snacks.
As the days grew shorter, we explored the nighttime sky and used our key text 'My Pet Star' as a provocation. Our nursery children discovered a star on the ground outside of our nursery. We gently picked it up and nursed it back to health. We realised that it must have fallen from the sky. It was dirty and it was hurt. We saw fantastic teamwork and problem solving from our youngest children as they worked together to help the star recover, until one day it began to glow, and we set it free.
Advent was a large focus for us throughout Foundation Stage as we prepared the children to welcome Baby Jesus as Christmas. We worked together to perform our unique nativity story 'Lost and Found'. We were so incredibly proud of the children for their hard work, bravery and dedication in this heartwarming retelling.

Autumn 1
Throughout the first half of the autumn term, our nursery children have enjoyed exploring provision indoors and outdoors, using our core nursery rhymes for inspiration.
We have learnt the vocabulary and the physical actions to allow us join in with
- Twinkle, twinkle little star
- Incy Wincy Spider
- Baa, baa black sheep
- Teddy bear teddy bear turn around
- Hickory Dickory Dock
We explored the vocabulary from these rhymes through a variety of experiences. We also shared song and rhyme bags, which the children took home to allow them to engage with these rhymes with their families.
We ended the half term with our annual autumn walk to Locke Park, exploring the changes to our local environment during the season of autumn. We carved pumpkin lanterns and invited our families in to share a Song and Rhyme Time session. A wonderful start to the school year.
