EYFS 2 Reception

Welcome to the F2 class page. Our class teacher is Miss Szutka and our teaching assistant's are Miss Barnes and Mrs Rose. Mrs Bywater covers the class on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

This year the children will all have the opportunity to take home our ‘everywhere bear’, something I’m sure they will all love. We hope to see him go on lots of adventures with the children.

We will continue to support children’s learning and development through exploration, following the children’s interests and curiosities. This journey will be shared throughout the year. We would love to see your child’s continuous development at home also, so please share any of your child’s interests or WOW moments that you observe at home with us using your seesaw account.

P.E is every Friday – please ensure your child has their P.E kit on this day and all uniform (including their P.E kit) is labelled with your child’s name.

Every week your child will bring home a reading book linked to their phonetic ability, as well as a book to read for pleasure. The books will be changed weekly. We would love to see snippets of your children reading at home and these can be uploaded to seesaw. Please share a story with your children each day – bed time is the perfect opportunity to do so. We also encourage you to practice letter sounds with your children each week. This year there are lots of prizes to be won for reading – the more your child reads, the more chances they have of winning. Please write in your child’s reading record each time they have read at home.

Spring Term 2024
Our Reception children have had a wonderful term exploring the world around them. They began by exploring the dark and finding out all about nocturnal animals. They enjoyed a key text linked to this as they read and retold the story 'Hungry Hen'.

We explored our local area, learning the names of local buildings and landmarks. We then walked from school to the library and back, spotting these landmarks along the way. We enjoyed a story, song and rhyme session at the library and borrowed books to take to school and home.

We then moved on to explore the season of spring with some wonderful outdoor explorers' challenges. We planted seeds and explored how things grow. We took part in an experiment to discover that our seeds need sunlight, water, warmth and gentle hands to help them grow. We read the story of The Little Red Hen and were so lucky to have a visit from a real chef. Mr Dobson helped us to bake our own bread. A very busy half term with a strong focus on our world.

Our learning was centred around our Lenten preparations for the second half of this term. We were so incredibly proud of our children as they learned what happened to Jesus during Lent. They were so respectful throughout.

Autumn Term 2023

We have had such a busy first term in Reception! The children have settled really well into school and have loved exploring the different areas of our classroom and outdoor area.

We have looked at some wonderful key texts including The Everywhere Bear, Mr. Men and Little Miss and Little Bear lost. The children have celebrated Bonfire night and learned all about how we can keep ourselves safe as well as learning about the role of a firefighter. We had a great bonfire celebration with the Nursery children and ate lots of yummy food. We also had a visit from a real firefighter!

We have enjoyed learning about birthdays as part of our R.E topic and threw a party for Everywhere Bear, who we discovered had gone missing after his party. We searched all around school and created ‘lost’ posters to let others know he was missing.

We have had some fantastic visitors in Reception this term, including a police officer and the Emergency Services Museum. The police officer helped teach us what to do if we get lost and the Emergency Services Museum brought a fire engine for us to explore. They even found and rescued Everywhere Bear. We were so happy to have him back.

We have absolutely loved our first term at school and cannot wait for more learning, fun and adventures in spring.
