Year 6

Welcome to the Year 6 class page. Mrs Heald is the class teacher with Mrs Bell supporting each day. Mrs Woolley covers the class on a Thursday afternoon and all day on a Friday.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be returned on a Thursday. Spellings will also be given out on a Friday to practise for the following week, they will also be put on Spelling Shed for children to access.

PE days are Thursday and Friday and will be outdoors weather permitting.

Your child should have a reading for pleasure book and also a book that matches with their reading age. These will be changed in school when your child demonstrates a good understanding of the book.

Please make sure you read daily at home!  If you read four times a week and it is written in your reading journal, you will get a raffle ticket to join our reading raffle.

Our Reading Scrapbook will also be sent home each week to further share our love of reading in class. Reading books will be changed in class when needed and children will take ownership of this.

Summer Term

Class 6 had a brilliant final half term. They visited Eden Camp, took part in Mass at Padley, enjoyed helping the younger children at Sports Day and finished with a trip to the Cinema!

They have worked so hard this year and have shown determination, perseverance, and a positive attitude.  Well done year 6!

Spring Term

Class 6 have had another busy term! We have enjoyed our topic Frozen Kingdoms where we have explored the Arctic and Antarctic, finishing with an investigation and presentations on who was responsible for the sinking of the Titanic. Additionally, we explored the text Shackleton's Journey and wrote diaries as one of the crew members.

We have really found our love of Reading this term and have completed some exciting reading activities to develop our knowledge and skills in this area. We have enjoyed exploring new texts in the classroom and sharing texts together for our Reading and Writing learning.

Science Week was very exciting this term and we took part in a range of experiments as well as visiting Horizon Community College to watch a Science session.

We ended the half term leading the Stations of the Cross liturgy for the school - the children read beautifully and confidently.

Autumn Term

During the Autumn Term, class six have been busy! We enjoyed our topic Maafa and learnt about the slave trade in Africa. We loved our text The Arrival and created some fabulous written work that is on display in the hall. We have also worked hard on developing our vocabulary and have built up a range of words on our display. We finished the term celebrating Christmas and Christmas dinner was enjoyed by us all!
